The Chicago Blackhawks attempt to take a commanding series lead tonight, while the Minnesota Wild try to get back to even in front of their hometown fans in St Paul, as the two teams face off in Game 4 of their second round playoff series. The Wild do have a bit of momentum going for them, having won the last game of the series after dropping the first two. But the Blackhawks are looking to flex their muscles as defending champs and find their way back to the Stanley Cup finals.
Minnesota is a surprise team in the second round of the playoffs, having entered as a wildcard before knocking off the top seeded Colorado Avalanche in a game seven thriller. No one is surprised to see Chicago back in the playoffs again, but whether they have enough left in the tank to get back to the finals is an open question whose answer will become a bit more clear tonight.
The Minnesota Wild hope to maintain home-ice advantage and even up their Western Conference semifinal series with the Chicago Blackhawks in Friday night's Game Four at Xcel Energy Center.
The Wild surrendered nine goals in the first two games and barely scored three of their own to fall behind 0-2 to current Stanley Cup holder Chicago, but look to build off the momentum gained in their 4-0 shutout victory in Game Three.
The series is now at 2-1 largely due to a third period scoring barrage by the Wild in Game Three, with center Mikael Granlund registering two goals and Zach Parise scoring his fourth goal of the postseason, and Jason Pominville assisting on two goals.
